N.Z. Naval Unit in Mangonui
"KIWI” AGAIN VISITS NORTH WATERS Entering Mangonui harbour on Tuesday was the anti - subma:i.”e minesweeper, H.M.N.Z.S. Kiwi which visited Mangonui some few months ago. She is at present on a training cruise, and has as her personnel a number of young seamen from the training depot, H.M.N.Z.S. Tamaki. Under the command of Lieut.-Com-mander J. Ross, the ship left Auckland some' few days ago, and her movements after her departure from Mangonui are not known with any degree of certainty, weather being a factor in this, as the trainees have not been to sea before. Lieut.-Commandei Ross was entertained semi-officially by the Kaitaia Borough Council at afternoon tea on Wednesday afternoon, whilst some of his officers played golf at the Kaitaia Golf links. Ship’s ratings played Mangonui ut Rugby football on Wednesday afternoon, whilst residents of Mangonui tendered a dance on Wednesday night, this being well attended by the navy men who found no dearth of partners. On Thursday afternoon, the ship’s officers entertained visitors from Mangonui and Kaitaia at a cocktail party in traditional Navy manner. The vessel departed from Mangonui this morning, after expressing their deep appreciation of the hospitality tendered them.
