VICTORIA VALLEY W.I. The July meeting of the Victoria Valley Women’s Institute was held in the Memorial Hall on Tuesday sth when Mrs. 11. Tracey presided over a good attendance. After business discussions had taken place a letter was read by the Secretary, Mrs. H. Thompson, from the matron of the Kaitaia Hospital, thanking members for the bed pan covers which had been received. A letter was read from an Institute member 0 f a Scottish link and it was decided at th e meeting that parcels would be sent to this link. Mrs. Harry Thompson and Mrs. Harry Tracey were hostesses. Competitions for the month were as follows : Victoria posy—Mrs. Petersen 1. Mrs. H. Tracey 2 ; Knitting —Mrs. H. Thompson 1, Mrs. W. Coulter 1, Mrs. G. Hoskin 2 and Mrs. H. Tiacey 2 ; Cabbage Mrs. Ross White 1, Mrs. H. Tracey 2. Competitions were won by Mrs. G. Hoskin and Mrs. E. White. Competitions for August will be—best worked buttonhole, best bloom and best cauliflower. The meeting was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem. KAINGAROA W.I. The Kaingaroa W.I. held their June meeting in the hall last Tuesday when Mrs. Packard presided over a fair attendance. One new member was welcomed, also a visitor. The majority of business was the arranging for the Birthday Party to be held on June 30th. The afternoon tea hostesses were f.lesdames B. Co wit and L. Malcolm who served a delicious afternoon tea. The competitions were as follows : Home-made vase—Mesdames J. Cowie and C. Wallace 1, Mesdames L. Malcolm and J. Zidich 2 ; Something new from something old Mesdames L. Malcolm and Zidich 1, Mesdames B. Cowie, J. Cowie and R. Packard 2 ; Pickled onions—Mesdames Malcolm, P. Atkinson 1, Mesdames B. Cowie and C. Wallace 2 ; Gent’s buttonhole Mesdames Packard and Burgoyne 1. The singing of the National Anthem concluded the meeting. KAINGAROA W.I. BIRTHDAY PARTY The Kaingaroa Women’s Institute held their first birthday party in the hall on June 30th. In the absence of the President, Mrs. R. Packard, Mrc. C. Wallace welcomed the visitors from Awanui and Taipa Institutes and Mrs. A. W. Bird (President of the Northland Federation of Women’s Institutes) and Mrs. Bowman of Kaitaia W.I. After luncheon had been partaken cf, the cake was cut by Mrs. Bird, after the one candle had been lit and blown out by Mrs. Hicks (President, Awanui W. 1.) and Mrs. Q. May (Vice- . President of Taipa W. 1.) respectively. Mrs. Wallace then presented shoulder sprays (the work of Mrs. S. Meenan) to Mrs. Bird, Mrs. Hicks and Mrs. May. A shoulder spray was presented to the oldest member present by Mrs. B. Cowie, this going to Mrs. 1 Hicks. During the afternoon a play was presented by Mesdames Gibson Smith, J. Cowie. S. Atkinson and Burgoyne, and was greatly enjoyed by all pres- ’ cnt. Mrs. J. Cowie obliged with a j recitation and Mrs. Smith with a humorous reading. Games and competitions occupied j!
