PUKENUI WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
The June meeting of the Pukenui Women’s Institute was held in RatioHall on Thursday 23rd, Mrs. Lamb presiding over a good attendance. The competitions for the month were : Cooking, and A Bloom. In the cooking, Mrs. L. Burnage was first with cream puffs, Mrs. K. Tynan second with a sponge, and Mrs. P. W agener third with shortbread. For tbd best bloom Mrs. R. Leyland was first, Mrs. K. Tynan second, and Mrs. M. Leyland third. The roll call, “Does the 40-hour week benefit the women?” brought forth a loud “No 1” from everyone. Tw 0 games played. “Aunt Sally’s dead" and keeping a ping-pong ball on the table by blowing from person to person, caused much merriment to all. A rich fruit cake made by Mrs.
Morris and iced prettily by Mrs. H. Wagener, was won by Mrs. J. Leyland. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames M. Leyland, P. Wagener and 11. Lamb. The singing of the National Anthem brought a pleasant afternoon to a close.
