The Febi'uary meeting of the Fairburns Women’s Institute was he!d in the hall on the 10th when Mrs. Hoskin was in the chair and welcomed a visitor. There was a fair attendance j of members. Mrs. Metcalfe and Mrs. Atkinson agreed to pack the English parcel and members who have not contributed are asked to leave their tins of food at Mrsi. Atkinson’s. The President reported on the sale of lunch at the Sheep Fair and the proceeds are to be donated to the Hall Committee. Nominations were taken for the P'ederation president and executive committee. Mr. M. Atkinson gave a very interesting' and helpful demonstration on the budding of fruit trees, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs. Atkinson won the gift which had been donated by Mrs. Trigg. The roll call was a preserving hint. The month’s competitions were for a jar of jam and a vase of flowers. The meeting concluded with the serving of afternoon tea by the hostesses, Mrs. L Foster and Mrs. V. Fisher. The competitions for next month are a jar of preserved peaches, pears or tomatoes ; and an unusual container of flowers.
