Cricket Protests Dismissed

When Messrs. A. H. Stanton. President of the Mangonui Cricket Assn., J. Dawson, official umpire, A. J. Mackintosh, captain of the Mlangonui Senior Team, and K. McPherson, captain of the Colts Team, travelled to Whangarei on Wednesday to attend the evening meeting of the Northland Cricket Association Management Council, they went with the object of defending the Mangonui teams and Association from au implication of unsportsmanslike behaviour that had been alleged by the Bay of Islands Association. This action was taken in rebuttal of a protest that had been lodged by the Bay of Islands over the games played between Mangonui and Bay of Islands in the Dargaville Shield and Golden Bloom Shield series. It will be remembered that both games had been hard fought match-s, and upon’the return of the visitor'll to their own association, certain allegations had been made that Mangonui had wasted time, and had thus deprived the Bay senior team of winning. The Bay of Islands Association p' o-

tested that short time had been played, and they lodged this complaint and asked for a decision on the game by the Northland Management Committee. The delegates from the Mangonui Association were not concerned with the protest lodged on the grounds of short time, and whilst not admitting that this was the case, they were not concerned with any decision the governing body might make in the matter. . Their main concern was with the ; defence of their sporting integrity. They had no difficulty about this and were exonerated from any implication of unsportsmanlike behaviour, and the decision of the Management Committee was that the protests would be dismissed. Therefore, Mangonui will have to play Mid-Western now at an early ! date, for the possession of the Dargaville Shield, as will the Colts nave to play off for the Golden Bloom Shield. The final of the Dargaville Shield will be played in Kaitaia, and the Colts will have to travel to play their game.
