CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS TOMORROW Owing to the champion of champions tournament for the Singles and Pairs titles being held at Whangarei early in March, the Kaitaia Club tomorrow, commencing at 9 a.m., are endeavouring to finalise the issue. Yesterday E. Clark and J. Crosby enhanced their prospects for the Pairs title when in their first match since returning from the Dominion Championships (where unheralded and unsung they gave a grand performance in surviving nine rounds before losing a life) they comfortably beat two able bowlers in W. Dyer and H. Wilkinson, 28-18. Though Wilkinson won the first head, Clark and Crosby struck form with a vengeance, scoring 6 and 5 to lead 15 to 1 at the 6th end despite the heavy conditions. Dyer and Wilkinson fought back and on the 16th end with the score 24-14 Wilkinson held four but Crosby broke up the head with the last bowl and the count-up favoured him with yet another four and assured victory. A feature of the scoring was that 23 points of Crosby were secured in 5 ends, three 4s and a 5 and the full hand, 6. Wilkinson scored on more ends but included only one 4. FIRST YEAR TITLE The following is the draw for the first year championship which will be played on the two-life system : R. McSweeney v. A. Jackson, T. Borevich v. P. Barlow, L. Masters v. R. Smith, K. Fyfe v. D. Millar, R. Cox v. M. Morison.
