County Roads

At the usual monthly meeting of the Mangonui County Council held in the Council Chambers over which Mr. W. J. Steed, Chairman of the Council presided, the engineer made report as follows : Weather was good over most of the period and general repair work was in hand. Considerable bridge repair work has been necessary. Houhora Riding.—Flood damage repairs were in hand on Great North Road but not yet complete. Graders raked in part of road and also West Coast, Spains, Sweetwater and Unahi Roads. Some bridge repair »as done on Gt. North Road and 15 t.yds. of metal were delivered. Culverts were repaired and some sandstone delivered on Kaimaumau Road. Growth was cut back on Raio-Lambs Road. Awanui Riding.—Some repair work was done on Rangiputa and Waingakau Roads, 274 c.yds. of shale being delivered on the latter. Nine c.yds. of metal were used for patching on Tokerau Beach Road. Grader trued Gills, Kumi and Quarry Roads. Oruru Riding.—Bridge repair included deck work on Adamson’s bridge, several on Fern Flat Road, t'«vo on Parapara Road, two on Paranui Road, and the partial replacement of the three-span bridge near Kitchen Bros, on Peria-Valley Road which is now in hand. Repair metal was delivered to Oruru-Taipa Road—24 c.yds. Paranui—24 c.yds. and Kohumaru—10 c.yds. Mangonui Riding.—A culvert was repaired and 5 c.yds. of metal del vered on Mangonui-Oruru Road. 74 c.yds. of metal were delivered to P'rikaha Road and 24 c.yds. to Oruaiti. Victoria Valley Riding.—Tow y .d----er and tractor completed a heavy grading of Diggers Valley and Wriotehue Roads, culverts being opened and some growth cut also. Takf.iiue Road and Cemetery Road were graded. Repair metal delivered was 5 c.yds. to Diggers Valley, 5 c.yds. to Kitchens and 24 c.yds. to Peria- Valley. Kaitaia Riding. Graders trued Church, Cloughs, Wireless, Pcices, Fryers, Larmers and Ruaroa Ron Is. Herekino Riding.—Tow grader outfit cleaned up part of Diggers Valley Road. A culvert was replaced on the same road and 174 c.yds. of metal were spread, 5 c.yds. were also delivered to Herekino-Whangape Road and bridge No. 429 was rebuilt, being raised and lengthened. Ahipara Riding.—One load of metal was used for patching on Roma Road. Grader trued Roma and Beach Township Roads. Government Grants : Paranui-Uta-kai Road. —Culvei-ts were completed Okakawai Road. —Grader formed up flat section and shaped up balance.
