On the retirement of Mr. J. T. B Taaffe, the Mayoralty of the Kaitaia Borough was contested by Messrs. D. Archibald Snr. and L. G. Thompson Mr. Archibald, who was a past Chairman of the Kaitaia Town Board, was elected the new Mayor by a substantial majority of 189 votes. Mr. Archibald polled 371 and Mr. Thompson 182.
