KAITAIA’S Ist INNINGS VICTORY J. Sowter’s Fine Double Against Peria Playing for the Kaitaia senior team against Peria on Saturday on the High School-ground, skipper J. Sowter was undefeated with 106 on the board when the last wicket fell. Ilis innings, the highest individual score this season, included seven sixers and six fours, and he gave but one difficult chance. He was dropped right on the boundary, the ball coming down in the strong sun. Kaitaia had first use of the wicket and lost three wickets cheaply for 17 runs. However, a partnership between N. Rogers and J. Sowter saved the position, the fourth wicket falling for 74 runs. T. White was going nicely before he was run out for 14, and the whole team realised 165 runs. Peria presented a strong all-round attack, J. Wrathall bowling exceptionally well while their fielding was sound. Accurate and steady bowling by R. Russell and J. Sowter had Peria in difficulties and the side was all out for 83. J. Wrathall batted very well for 27. At one stage there were 3 wickets down for 65 runs, but the tail failed to wag with tlis result that there were 9 wickets down for 65 runs, before the last man, P. Martin, hit an entertaining 14 to improve the position. In their follow -on Peria shaped much better and they hit off 109 for 3 wickets before stumps were drawn for the day, giving Kaitaia a first innings victory by 82 runs. Results were :
