BOWLS

CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS The first round of the Kaitaia Bowling Club’s senior and junior pairs championships are now in full swing. In the senior championship the most important result during the week was the defeat of last year’s champions, H. M-Intosh and E. Clark ty the runners-up on that occasion, G. Surman and R. Freeman, 12-28. Other results in this competition : R. Beazley and Hoskin 29, defeated W. Dyer and L. Morpeth 11. D. Hanlon ancf M. Hammond 39, defeated A. Foster and A. Bird 11. L. Thompson and R. Michie 20, defeated D. Simms and C. Werner 13. P. Weber and J. E. Wilkinson 23, defeated A. Carson and P. Bidmead 8. In the junior pairs, the only game played to date bore all the elements of a major surprise when B. Wright and E. Gale were defeated by N. Masters and H. Crene by 20 to 14. Wright in particular, was fortunate to be handicapped as a junior and both he and Gale had gone through the first round of.the senior singles with both lives still intact. Bowlers will appreciate the change for the next two weeks in playing on the new green while the pavilion green is being top-dr .'ssed. The new green is yards faste> and in well nigh perfect condition. The following rii k team has been chosen to represent the Club in the North Auckland Centre championships to be played at Kaitaia on the 14th December: R. D. Hanlon, J. Cowie, M. Hammond and R. Freeman. The second round of the senior singles championships concludes tomorrow.
