KAITAIA BAND AND POLITICS

Sir.—As President of the Kaitaia Municipal Kami i desire to flatly contradict the statements which have been made in certain quarters, that o ur Band "showed political favours by playing on .he evening of the address by Mr. S. \V. Smith the National Party candidate. The true facts are that when the Band was first asked to play, our conduct r. Mr. Dos Boreham. would r.ot agree as he was then under the impression .hat it was a “gratis" arrangement and lie very wisely decided against playing. The position however, is that the Band was engaged and paid by the Local Ccmmituc of the National Party, and had tlu other Pa'vy desired the services of the Band on the same terms they would have turned out on Tuesday evening. (■•Those of us who formed this Band did so with the idea of having an organisation able to turn out on any special occasions ■ • cn.iitain and assist. and we feel that a Band is essentia! to any community. .May I Stress that politic.- me of no intciest to us as a Band. Yours, etc., L. (1. THOMPSON.
