Championship Games The first round of the senior singles championship of the Kaitaia Bowling Club was completed on Saturday. Run on the two-life system the second series of games will be completed on Saturday next, November 30th. There were one or two surprises, but for the most part, form worked out correctly. The first result announced, a win for E. Gale against H. was the major upset and had all tha elements of a rank outsider. Another junior, J. Crosby, in his second year, unexpectedly defeated Frank Braithwaite. However Crosby’s form was

confirmed in no uncertain manner over the weekend when he went on to defeat R. Michie in the second round, then figure in the winning team for the Taaffe Shield, and finally prove to be the successful skip in the monthly progressive pairs tournament. The title-holder, R. Lewis, failed to withstand R. Freeman’s challenge, but still has one life to carry on the good work. M. Hammond again found D. Simms a worthy opponent tc win by one only with the last bowl. Progressive Pairs Tourney Bowlers enjoyed the perfect weather for the monthly pairs tournament, 32 players taking part. At the conclusion of 5 games J. Crosby with 4 wins won the skip section outright. M. Hammond was run-ner-up with 31 wins, while A. Northwood did likewise among the leads with 41 wins. F. Baithwaite with 4 wins was runner-up. Taaffe Shield The Taaffe Shield changed hands for the first time this season on Saturday when R. Lewis’ team, P. Weber, J. Crosby and R. Freeman, defeated the holders, R. Northwood, H.

Sanders, J. Cowie and W. Parker, the latter substituting for J. T. B. Taaffe.

Personal Mr. S. Yelavich of the Air Force, has been the guest of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Srhoj. Friends of Mrs. Tony Yelavich will be pleased to hear that she is over her operation, and is as well as can be expected. Mr. Tony Yelavich is staying ir Auckland. Mr. T. Hill leaves for his home ir Hamilton, on Monday. Miss M. Matijevich and her brother, Nick, have left for a holiday ir Whangarei. Accidents A series of accidents have occurret around Waiharara lately ; one gann young man recently “took on” i bridge, with serious results —to thi bridge. Mr. N. Housham also had a nasty experience recently when his cai went over the bank at a spot in Waiharara where a recent accident of thi same nature occurred. Fortunately little damage was done, apart fron keeping some of the lads late for tht dance. The occupants of the car escaped with a shaking. Hall Dance A good crowd patronised the dance in aid of hall funds, held on Saturday 16th inst. Mr. L. Yelavich made a capable m.c. and the Hot Shots supplied the music with their customary zeal. Mr. Joe Herima and Mrs. McDonalc won the monte carlo waltz and Mr A. Blucher and Miss M. Matijevicl won a ticket waltz. The raffle was won by Mr. A. J. Blucher. A song and hula were given by one of thi patrons of the evening. Supper was in capable hands, ant was enjoyed by all. Dancing endec about midnight.
