Mr. Ken Timbers is making gooc progress in the Kaitaia Hospital after his accident last week. Mr. Sid Batten has returned from Wellington, where he received a diploma in motor lubrication after attendance at a special course. Miss Jean Holmes of Rakaia, midCanterbury, and Miss Johan Meyer of Oamaru, recently returned from overseas, who are making an extended tour of the North Island, have been the guests of Miss Daphne Coulter of Fairburns. They also visited Mrs. Slyfield of Herekino. Clearing Tennis Club’s Section Last week Mr. George Bonnett made a start on clearing the section adjacent to the present courts of tin Kaitaia Tennis Club. With his bulldozer on the job he has already cleared a considerable area. Card Evening A 500 evening was held in the Par- | ish Hall, Kaitaia, last night in aid of j the funds of the Parents’, Teachers’ I and Citizens’ Association. There was j a fair attendance and a very enjoyable evening resulted. Pi ize winners were : First prize Mrs. A. Gray (ladies), Mr. R. Saunders (men) ; Consolation prize —Mrs. M. Crene (ladies), Mr. Gray (men). The competition was won by Mr. Hales. Supper was served at the conclusion of play. TENNIS DANCE Kaitaia Tennis Club funds should benefit by about £l3 as the result of a most successful flannel dance in the A. and P. Hall on Saturday evening. This most pleasant function was a fitting finish to a most pleasant summer’s day. With Mr. Ken Fyfe m.c. and to the music of the Versatile Orchestra, dancers were well catered for. Winners of the monte carlo were Miss Gladys Brljevich anu Mr. Mike Atkins, and Mr. K. Maria and partner . The • first-on-the-floor winners were Mr. Lyle Turner and Miss Betsy Wright, and the competition winner Mr. Kemp. During the evening Mr. Fyfe presented silver badges to last reason’s competition winners as follows : Men’s singles Mr. Alex Johns ; Ladies’ singles—Mrs. B. Berry; Men’s B singles—Mr. Lionel Smith; Ladies’ B singles—Miss Joy Sowter. Handicaps : Men’s singles Mr. Lionel Smith ; Ladies’ singles—Mrs. B. Berry ; Men’s doubles—Mr. Peter Wilkinson and Mr. Alex Johns; Ladies’ Doubles—Mrs. E. Kay and Miss M. Lamb ; Combines—Mr. J. Watson and Miss N. White. Supper was served by club members and dancing continued until midnight. SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL CONCERT School funds should benefit considerably as the result of a very successful concert and dance held in the Pamapuria Hall on Friday evening. A good attendance enjoyed the items interspersed with a dance pro- j gramme. Items included: Three school songs, | “The Mermaid,” “All Through the Night,” “Isa Lei” ; Action songs—“Maranga,” “Kia Ora Ra,” “Haere Mai Enga Iwi” ; Taiaka haka—Haka ; Action song “Mere, Mere” ; Single Short Poi ; Action song j “Pamai te reo Aroha”; Single Long ' Poi ; Action songs “Kua Rongo, Rongo, Meke Manu Rere”; Double and Single Short Pois ; Action song “Naumai” ; Maori Stick game, , demonstration ; Action songs—“Tena ra,” “Hei Aha”; Solo dancing items given by Miss Jocelyn Murray and Miss Kathleen Semenoff.
