Senior The draw for next Saturday, November 30 is : Victoria Valley v. Mangataiore at Victoria Valley. Kaitaia v. Peria at Kaitaia. * NOMADS BEAT MANGATAIORE OUTRIGHT IN EXCITING FINISH With a four off the last ball of the match. Nomads defeated Mangataiore outright by one run and three wickets at Mangataiore on Saturday. Conditions were ideal for these two teams to turn on a bright and exciting all-day match. Winning the toss, Harry Findlay (Nomads’ skipper) proved wig* ia electing to put his team in the field first. Bowling into a fresh south-easterly he had the Mangataiore batsmen completely subdued, while from the other end C. Eales maintained a good length with his fast accurate deliveries. Backed up by good fielding the combination had Mangataiore out for 56. Highlight of the innings was two magnificent catches in the outfield by L. Taffard. S. White and R. Harrison opened the Mangataiore attack against T. Northwood and R. Maddock. White obtained two cheap wickets, and the runs were evenly distributed amongst the remainder of the team. L. Beazley with 29 and H. Findlay with 23 were the highest scorers. To dismiss C. Eales, Stuart Switzer held a great catch after the ball had first dealt him a severe crack in the eye. S. White had the best bowling average. In their second trip to the wicket R. Harrison declared Mangataiore’s innings closed at 8 wickets down for 123, leaving Nomads 74 runs to get for an outright win in 65 minutes. A partnership by S. Kucher: and S. Switzer realised 64 runs before Kitchen was clean bowled by Eales at 36. Switzer batted attractively for 38, while Edwards with 19 was shaping very confidently before being well held by Findlay. Maddock and Findlay batted steadily for half an hour to put 30 runs on the board. With 8 wickets still intact. Nomads then decided to chase the runs. Wickets began to fall cheaply, and with one ever to go Nomads required 9 runs for an outright win. S. White bowled this over and with his seventh ball he obtained a wicket. Four runs were still required, and the last ball of the match J. Baker hit back over the bowler’s head for 4, giving the Nomads the victory by 1 run and 3 wickets.
