Mrs. H. K. Hatrick and daughter will be visiting Kaitaia on Tuesday. Miss Edna Crene returned to Whangarei on Tuesday after a few days spent with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Crene. Mr. Perry White left on Tuesday to enter the Carpentry Training School at Whangarei. Mr. Charlie Dickie returned yesterday after being bestman at a wedding at Whangarei. Mr. J. W. Puckey left this morning on a week’s holiday to be spent in Hamilton. Miss Lillian Matthews returned to her school at Waitotora on Sunday after spending a week with her mother, Mrs. E. M. Matthews, of Larmer’s Road. Mr. and Mrs. Len White and Mrs. Susan White left on Wednesday for a month’s tour of the South Island. Mrs. Mcßae of Mercer is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Trevor White. Miss B. Manning of Hamilton has been visiting her nephew, Mr. Jack Agnew of Kaitaia. Miss L. Reyburn of Whangarei, visited Kaitaia during the weekend. Miss H. Udjur returned to Hamilton after spending a week with her parents at Waipapakauri. Mrs. Leyland of Houhora is spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. C. Harrison, of Lake Road. COUNTY COUNCIL SUPPORTS AM B U LAN CESC HEM E County Councillors were informed at their meeting on Wednesday that the Mangonui Ambulance Association was anxious that the County and Borough Councils call a public meeting to discuss the provision of an ambulance for the county. t It was reported that there was available at the present time a suitable 1946 Ford chassis. The price of this chassis was £1,033, to be delivered within 6 months. Option over this chassis was fixed at 14 days. Funds would have to be raised, said Mr. Theed. Twelve volunteer drivers were available and it was proposed at present to house the ambulance at the hospital. The vehicle would be available for the entire County but public subscription would be needed. Councillors were enthusiastic at the idea and they felt that the money necessary would be forthcoming quickly. It was decided to hold the meeting next Monday evening if it could be arranged.

Read, i all the recipients are returned ser- ! vicemen. 1 Electrical Association Meeting At the usual monthly meeting of the Kaitaia Electrical and Radio Association the programme for the forthcoming year was mapped out. Members discussed improvements that could be made to the library that is available to them. A questions and answers night and a general discussion closed the evening. , 7 INSTITUTION OF NEW VICAR Rev. D. H. A. Niblock was instituted Vicar of the Parochial District of Kaitaia, by Bishop Simkin at a service in St. Saviour’s Church on Wednesday evening. Assisting the Bishop were the Reverends J. G. Heath (Kaikohe), G. L. Maffey (Hikurangi) and two Maori vicars, the Reverends Timpene (Peria) and M. Cameron. After the institution ceremony evensong was taken at which Bishop Simkin preached. An informal gathering of parish- | ioners later met the Bishop and Rev. | Niblock in the Parish Hall. On be- ; half of parishioners, Mr. F. A. Hcldj er, Church Warden, welcomed the new Vicar and his wife to the district. Rev. Niblock replied. VICTORIA VALLEY LADIES’ GUILD The monthly meeting was held in the Memorial Hall on Tuesday, 19th November. Mrs. J. Paton presided. There was a good attendance and after the devotional period, conducted by Rev. J. Graham, the president expressed the Guild’s regret that one member, Mrs. Cope, was leaving the district. He wished her well in her new home at Kaikohe. Mrs. Graham presented Mrs. Cope with a framed picture on behalf of the Guild. Mrs. Cope suitably replied. Two competitions, “Jumbled Names” and “The Names of Trees” were won by Mrs. H. M. Thompson and Mrs. Graham respectively. The serving of afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close.
