Roadwork in the County
The following teport on roads and roadwork in the County for the period ended November 15th, 1946, was sub- . mitted at the monthly meeting of th 3 Mangonui County Council on Wednesday, by Mr. A. M. Theed, EngineerClerk : Broken weather throughout the month has held up repair work and has tables and subgrades from drying out. As a consequence heavy grading cannot be proceeded with. Houhora Riding: Auto Patrol grader trued West Coast Road, Unahi i Road and part of Spains Road. A | weak place on Spains Road received 3 c.yds. of metal. Road broke up near I Yerkovich’s and springs were tapped by an underground drain, and surface metalled. Minor repair work was done at two bridges and road repaired near Ngataki. The Galion grader is at present engaged in a complete overhaul of Great North and side roads. Awanui Riding : Galion grader trued up Parapara, Ohia, Merita, Riley’s, Pekerau, Uvlich’s Roads, lower j end of Duncan’s and part of Church Road. A bridge was repaired on Pekerau Road and 6 c.yds. of metal de- j livered on Parapara Road. Overhanging growth was cut back on Duncan's j Road and some repairs including 9 c.yds. of metal, done on Champion’s Road. Oruru Rding : Gradgr trued Paranui, Taylor’s and Oruru-Taipa Roads and repair metal was delivered to Paranui-Taylor’s, 2091 yds., and Oru-ru-Taipa, 17J yds. Some planks were replaced on Adamson’s bridge and tables and culverts were cleared, culverts opened and growth cut back on Paranui, Toatoa and Oruru-Taipa Roads. Mangonui Riding : Repair work in Mangonui Township was continued, metal being delivered as follows : Domain Road, 39 c.yds. ; Doctor’s, 6 c.yds. ; Zainey’s and Williams’, 3 e. yds. each. Tables and growth were cleared. Tables and culverts were opened and slips cut back on lower end of Kohumaru Road, and one load of metal delivered. 15 c.yds. of shingle were used on Hihi Road. Victoria Valley Riding : Temporary repairs were completed at Duncan’s bridge. Auto Patrol grader shaped
up Takahue Road and tow grader outfit has opened tables and reformed Snelgar’s Road throughout. Drains and culverts were opened and grow tii cut back on Snelgar’s Road. Some repair work was done on Te Rore and Takahue Saddle Roads and a large pipe culvert put in as a replacement on Waiotehue Road. Repair metal amounted to : Snelgar’s Road, 18 c. yds. ; Te Rore, 12 c.yds. ; Takahue Saddle, 9 c.yds. ; and Diggers’ Valley, 6 c.yds. Kaitaia Riding : Tow grader and tractor cleared tables and drains on Ruaroa, Clough’s, Oturu and Donald’s Roads. Auto Patrol truing surface on Ruaroa and Bonnett’s Roads and cutting off banks on Donald’s Road. Gabon grader cleared tables and raked in metal on Church Road. Repair metal was delivered on Church Road, 3 c.yds. ; Clough’s Road, 24 c.yds. ; Wireless, Bell’s, 27 c.yds. ; and Bonnett’s Road, 6 c.yds. 3 c.yds. of rock were delivered to a damaged pipe culvert on Ruaroa Road where two pipes were lifted and relaid on rock foundation. Herekino Riding : Repair work has been put in hand on Puhata, Wha- ' ngape and Smith’s Roads and Auto | Patrol grader will now shape up ill roads. Ahipara Riding : Repairs are in hand on Epikauri Road and bridge and Roma Road. General : Reconditioning of cot- i tage for yardman is nearly complete, linng being done, chimney built and cupboards, etc., fitted. Painting was also done.
