Miss McPhee returned to Whangarei on Tuesday after being the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Crosby. Mr. and Mrs. John Cummings Snr. of Mangatangi, Waikato, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. K. D. Whitburn. Mrs. W. H. Subritzky and daughter Leona, who have been visiting friends and relations in the district, are returning to Auckland on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Bellingham and family have taken up their new residence in Kaitaia. Mrs. Baker and Cpl. (Miss) F. Baker are visiting Kaitaia during the weekend. Mrs. Mason of Auckland returned to her home this morning after being the guest of Mr. and Mrs. K. Knight. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Bell returned to Kaitaia last night after a holiday spent at the Bay of Islands and Dargaville. Mr. Norman Foster and son left on Friday for Auckland on annual leave. Mr. W. Marsh is leaving for Wellington on Saturday as a delegate to the R.S.A. Conference. Mr. W. N. Perkins who was admitted to the Hospital last week suffering from a slight stroke, is reported to be improving satisfactorily. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Thompson of Devonport (formerly Miss Ron Wilkinson) are the proud parents of a baby son. Mrs. E. L. Beazley returned last Monday from a holiday spent in Napier. Mrs. C. Moros and LAC P. Moros are the guests of Mrs. L. Lunjevich. j Miss Verice Black of Harriet, Gore, has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. ! Eric Young. Mr. C. S. Wrack paid a flying visit , to Whangarei last weekend. Shortly after we notice Miss C. Lunjevich wearing a very attractive engagement ! ring Congratulations ! SURPRISE PARTY Friends and relations tin-canned Mr. and Mrs. Nigel Rogers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rogers last Saturday evening. An enjoyable time was spent in games and competitions, Mrs. Nigel Rogers and Mr. L. G. Dixon tying for first place in the guessing competition. Supper was I eaten under candle-light, the electric ' power being cut-off just after the \ serving had started. INGLESJDE A large gathering enjoyed a pleasant evening at this month’s Ingleside of the Scottish Society held -in the A. and P. Hall last Saturday evening. The programme was organized by Mrs. Whitburn and the items included vocgl solos by Miss Joy Kirtlan and Rev. Graham, a cornet solo by Mr. Lindsay, while several violin pieces were played by Mr. Timbers. Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. White with Mr. Eric Hansen and his accordion supplied the dance music. BASKETBALL BALL ■ To the music of the popular Versatile orchestra, and under the capable m.c. Mr. Tom Ryan, a large gathering of dancers had a very happy time at the Basketball Ball last evening. Monte carlos were won by Mr. Rex Masters and Miss Pat Morrison, and Mr. Neil Flinn and Miss M. Mitchell. The spot waltz was won by Mr. Hack Matthews and Miss Nancy Morrison, while Mr. G. Marevich and Miss P. Weber were successful in the ticket waltz. FOOTBALLERS INJURED While playing for City Juniors on Saturday, Bruce Morpeth received slight concussion. He finished the match, however, but was admitted to hospital that night. His condition is reported to be quite satisfactory. Bobby Murray dislocated his shoulder while playing for Herekino, and after treatment at the Hospital he was able to return home. Francis Matthews suffered a knee injury while playing for Awanui and received treatment at the Hospital. LYNTON PRIVATE HOTEL What is going to happen to the Lynton Private Hotel when Mrs. Ivan Stanton leaves it at the end of this month is a question which is being much discussed these days. Mrs. Stanton, whose- lease expired last month, expects to be leaving the district altogether. A considerable amount has to be spent on the Lynton to bring it up to the Health ’ Department’s specifications and whether that money will be spent and a new propieter found,.or whether the place will be closed, is still a matter for conjecture.
