Fairburns W.I.
The May meeting of the Fairburns Women’s Institute was held recently in the hall, when there was a good attendance of members. The President, Mrs. S. Christensen, was in the chair and welcomed two visitors. A letter from Mrs. H. D. Foster was read, thanking the Institute for their gift. . A report of the last District Council was read. Members were asked to bring suggestions for competitions for the Bi-annual Show in November. Mrs. M. Atkinson gave a very interesting account of Mrs. McNaughton’s visit to the Annual Federation meeting in April. Mrs. Thomas Snr. gave a most into Whangarei in connection with the teresting account of her recent visit opening of the Octagonal Church there. Roll call was a verse or short reading. The month’s competitions were for a bed-sock (knitted or crocheted) and a vase of flowers. As Mothers’ Day had been a few days previously, the President presented Mrs. Thomas Snr., as the Institute “mother,” with a small gift from the members. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Christensen and Mrs. Atkinson, and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
