Church Anniversary : The Mangonui Methodist Church was the second of three churches opened during the ministry of Rev. C. Aker in the years 1909-10, the other two being situated at Fairbums and Oruru. Many residents of Mangonui s :ill remember the opening services which were conducted by Rev. Geo. Bond. Shortly after the opening of the Church, Rev. G. W. Pittendreigh become the first minister of the newly constituted Mangonui Circuit, the district until that time having been worked from Kaco. Rev. C. Aker, whose efforts assisted materially in the erection of the Church, is still in the active ministry at Coromandel. The Anniversary service will be held next Sunday, September 2nd, at 3 p.m. Oruaiti Chapel : Good progress has been made with the re-erection of the historic Octagon Chapel on the Leigh Memorial Church site in Kamo Road, Whangarei. Having been disused for some years, the Chapel had fallen into a very bad state of dis- • repair, and the Trustees decided to accept the Whangarei Church’s offer to remove and restore the building. Extensive repairs have been carried out and the roof re-shingled at a cost of over £IOO, and the Chapel should be ready for use at an early date. Initially, the Chape! will be used as a classroom, but later will become a museum of early Northland Church relics. Parsonage Building Fund : A generous gift of £IOO from the Pitt St. Church Trust brings the total to £BO2. : Kaeo News : Plans are in hand for the removal of the old wooden Church below the Parsonage to the rear of j the Memorial Church, where it will be utilised as a Sunday School Hall. A sufficient sum to cover the project has been raised, and the demolition j of the building prior to removal has already been commenced.
