TAKAHUE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
The usual monthly meeting of the Takahue Women’s Institute was held in the Takahue Hall, on Tuesday, August 10, Mrs. Carr presiding over a fair attendance of members. The roll call was, “Sewing and First-Aid Hints.” Ways and means for raising funds for Patriotic purposes were discussed, and it was decided to hold a Patriotic Day on Saturday, September 25 at the Takahue Hall. Mrs. Sanders gave a very interesting report of her visit to the Conference in Gisborne. The results of the competitions were as follows : 1 bloom —Mrs. D. Kitchen 1; 3 potatoes—Mrs. Warner 1; Any article made from a sugar bag—Mrs. Scrint 1. Competitions were won by Miss Lake and Mrs. Val Evans. The trading table was quite successful, the proceeds being for soldiers’ parcels. Members please should note that the September meeting will take place on the 7th (first Tuesday in September). The competition for September will be as follows : 1 bloom, any article suitable for sale, jar marmalade. Roll Call : “What wartime economy that hurts me the most.” The hostesses were Mesdames Kitchen and Evans.
