Awanui Items
PERSONAL Pte. Peter Samuels, who is home on furlough, has arrived in Awanui. Mr. Cedric Blithe is at present a patient in the Kaitaia Hospital. Miss Betty Shaw has now returned from hospital after her recent illness. Mrs. A. D. Shaw, late of Awanui, has been on a holiday visit to Awanui. Cpl. J. Collins, now returned from overseas on furlough, has been paying a visit to the North.
AWANUI RIFLE CLUB Last Tuesday evening the Awanui Rifle Club held its weekly shoot in Mr. T. J. Gardiner’s garage, with some good scores being handed in. The Juniors Match resulted in a win for J. Erceg with 32 off the rifle, and the senior medal round was annexed by Torrie Shepherd with 34 out of a possible 35. The handicap match saw J. Hodgson, D. Maria, P. Feeley, T. Shepherd, J. Matthews, A. Dykins and F. Begley all score possibles with their handicaps, and it took two shoot-offs to decide that D. Maria was the winner. The next shoot will be held next Tuesday at T. J. Gardiner’s garage.
