National Candidate for Bay
Mr. S. XV. Smith Selected Two names, Mr. H. F. Guy and Mr. S. W. Smith, were nominated for selection to contest the Bay of Islands Seat at the forthcoming election in the National Party interest, and on a postal ballot of members of the party in the Electorate being taken Mr. S. XV. Smith was selected as the Party candidate. Mr. Smith was horn in Ashburton, South Island, in 189.3, and was educated at the primary and Ashburton High schools. After leaving school he entered on a business training at Ashburton, and in 1913 he went to Greymouth to take up a business position. In 1915 he enlisted for the Great War returning invalided in December, 1918. Oil regaining his health he entered into partnership for farming operations in the Bay of Islands. Four years later he went back to business and took over the Management of Wallace Supplies Ltd., Kawakawa, leaving in 1930 to take up and farm 220 acres of land at Pakaraka where he has since resided. He is Chairman of Directors of the Bay of Islands Dairy Co., a member of the Bay of Islands County Council, and a member of the Bay of Islands Hospital Board and a member of the Kaikohe District Primary Production Council.
