Rainfall for the Month

The month of November was apparently one for surprises, as far as the weather was concerned anyway. After the past week of wet weather it may, or may not, come as a surprise to Kaitaia residents to learn that 5.79 inches fell during those days. The rainfall for each day was as follows : Saturday 2.48 inches, Sunday .58 inches, Monday .03 inches, Tuesday .29 inches, Wednesday .43 inches, Thursday .93 inches, Friday 1.04 inches, Saturday .01 inches. The total tor November is 5.58 inches, and‘compared with the average for that month of 2.75 inches it will be seen that this year the fall for the past week has substantially eclipsed the recognised total for the month. Prior to, last week rain was recorded on the 9th (.24 inches), 22nd (.27 inches) and 23rd (.23 inches) ; between October 6th and November 9th only .06 inches was recorded, so it can be well understood why the farmers in the County greeted with enthusiasm the recent deluge. Of course there are more summer months which may be dry ones but nevertheless the pastures have now been given a good start.
