HEREKINO V. VALLEY On Saturday last the Herekino team travelled to Victoria Valley and were defeated by 3 wickets in a oneinnings match. The game was spoiled by light rain which fell for a considerable period* however play proved very interesting and the issue was always in doubt. Features of the play were sound innings by Sonny Wrathall for Victoria Valley and Ashley Thompson for Herekino, while the bowling of the visitors was remarkably accurate in spite of the slippery conditions. Following are the detailed scores : Herekino : T. Wright c C. Foster b Thompson 5, W. Reid c Dawson b Thompson 0, R. Buckland c Dawson b C. Foster 7, B. Wright b Thompson 6, A. FACTORY V. MANGATAIORE Although weather conditions were definitely against cricket, the game Factory versus Mangataiore was only held up an hour or so, and the game played and enjoyed thoroughly. Factory went in first and made 124. Mang-ataiore were left an hour in which to equal this figure, but with twelve minutes to play (at which stage it was decided to call the game a draw) they had six wickets down for 47. The batsmen worthy of special mention were R. Buckingham, who although he gave several chances compiled a nice little 54; S. Switzer, who scored freely before being bowled at 33 ; H. Switzer, who was run out at 17 ; T. Haughton, who played his usual good bat to put on 13 (all singles except one four); and J. Churton (14). Bowlers had a bad day, as it was almost impossible to put spin on the greasy, wet ball. S. Kitchen (2 for 0), C. Thompson (3 for 18), W. Edwards (3 for 29), and H. Switzer (3 for 27) were the most successful bowlers, although A. Rogers bowled very well as usual, bowling 10 overs, 3 maidens, 1 wicket for 29 runs.

Tinned vegetables are almost unobtainable in Berlin. Only one tin can be bought at a time and mis must be opened in the shop to prevent hoarding. ☆ ☆ ☆ The French Government has issued an official postcard for relatives and friends to use when writing to soldiers. On the address side is the flag; it needs no stamp, and carries a space for the soldier’s name, rank, regiment, battalion, company, squad or battery number. It also offers advice, in italics, to the writer to mention no military operations. ☆ ☆ * More than fifty per cent of the world’s population lives on five per cent of the earth’s surface.
