Winter Weather and Summer Sports
The Weather Bureau played a nasty trick on sportsmen last weekend — turned on the heat during the preceding week days and released the rainfall early Saturday morning, wiping out completely any ideas of a great afternoon’s sport on the playing tields. Of course the rain came as a pleasant surprise to those athletes who own gardens .md have had to hose them in past weeks, but the godsend got a bit monotonous and any thoughts of the weather clearing up after lunch were soon dispelled—it cleared not and above all did away with any notions of play on the following day. As a result of the deluge all tennis matches which were scheduled for last Saturday will have to be played off this coming Saturday. One cricket match was played, one haif played, and one not started : the uncompleted games will be played at the conclusion of the round.
