Mangonui Group The following are the results tjf the Calf Club judging in the Mangonui group : Calf rearing, light breeds —George Berghan (Mangonui) 1, Desmond Berghan (Mangonui) 2, Clayton Rogers (Peria) 3. Ceritficate of merit to Donald Kennedy, Mangonui. Heavy breeds Douglas Christensen (Peria) 1. Dairy type—George Berghan (Mangonui) 1, D. Christensen (Peria) 2, D. Kennedy (Mangonui) 3. Champion calf —G. Berghan (Mangonui). The judges were Messrs. H. M. Thompson and R. Beazley.

County Championships Decided The county championships of the Schoo Calf Clubs were decided at a parade of the group winners at Kaitaia on Tuesday. The following were the awards by the judges, Messrs. Roy Beazley and J. T. Clark : Calf rearing, light breed —Walter Thompson (Victoria Valley school) 1, Audrey Thompson (Victoria Valley school) 2, Rangi Dudley (Pamapuria Native school) 3; heavy breed —Richmond Coulter (Farburn school) 1, Reg Parker (Fairburn school) 2, Julia Masters (Ahipara school) 3 ; Native children’s section—Rangi Dudley (Pamapuria Native school) 1, Patrick Semenolf (Pamapuria Native school) 2, Mere Te Maru (Pukepoto Native school) 3. Dairy type Walter Thompson (Victoria Valley school) 1, Mary Yerkovich (Motutangi school) 2, Gladys Yerkovich (Motutangi school) 3. Children’s judging Rex White (Kaitaia school) 1, Jim Stewart (Kaingaroa school) 2, Richmond Coulter (Fairburn school) 3. Other competitors to receive certificates of merit for calf rearing— Ray Wallace (Kaingaroa school), Rex White (Kaitaia school), Jim Stewart (Kaingaroa school), Claire Williams (Awanui school), Branco Yelavich (Waiharara), Mary Yerkovich (Motutagi), Gladys Yerkovich (Motutangi), Ned Jujnovich (Herekino), Clive Baker (Herekino). Rex White won the cup donated by Mr. Roy Beazley for calf judging. Other special prizes included vases presented by Mr. D. Archibald for calf rearing. The judges’ task was difficult owing to the very fine, even lot of calves

entered. Luncheon was served by farmers and teachers for competitors and visitors from the outlying districts. Thanks are due to all who helped make the day the success it was. Mr. E. R. Heal, county secretary, on whem fell most of the organisation this year, carried out his duties so effectively that all the arrangements went through without a hitch. MANGONUI GROUP SWEET PEA CLUBS The following are the results of the judging of the Mangonui group of school Sweet Pea clubs : Champion bloom Pauline Dibble (Mangonui) 1, Olga Edwards (Peria) 2, Alan Subritzky (Mangonui) 3. On the occasion of the judging of the Calf and Sweet Pea clubs of the Mangonui group of schools at Oruru a series of inter-school races were run, the following being the results (schools competing—Mangonui, Oruru. Peria and Parapara) : Girls (five years)—Sophie Carr 1, Dawn Adams 2, Mary Philips 3; boys —Dave Wright 1, Ben Nathan 2, Joe Greaves 3.

Girls (six years)—Ailsa Shearer 1, Tui Foster 2, Lola Walmsley 3 ; boys —Jim Gobich 1, Ray Hagan 2, James Reid 3.

School Sports The Takahue school tennis and cricket teams visited Victoria Valley last Friday and were successful in winning both games. The boys won the cricket by 70 runs to 36, while in tennis, Takahue were successful in every set.
