Herekino Sports

Boisterous Weather Mars This Annual Fixture Under rather boisterous weather conditions, the annual Herekino sports meeting was held on the Herekino Domain last Saturday, and these conditions were no doubt responsible for the rather meagre attendance of the public and the small entries received. The sports were originally scheduled for Easter Saturday but the weather conditions on that day necessitated a postponement. The following are the results of the

events that were carried out : Running Maiden race, 100 yards— W. Lloyd 1, B. Murray 2. Seven runners made a good race of it and provided a close finish. Herekino Cup, 120 yards C. R. Jones 8 yds. 1, Archie Dysart 6 yds. 2. Although there was only about a yard between the first and second men, the other two competitors were rather strung out at the finish. Chops 12 inch standing chop Mansell Tukarei 17 secs. 1, Joe Julian 12 secs. 2, Ted Smith 14 secs. 3. Tukarei had rather an easy win from the

other six axemen, but there was only a chip between the second and third men. 14 inch standing chop—Joe Julian 14 secs. 1, Mansell Tukarei 20 secs. 2, C. Wallace 24 secs. 3. Julian easily landed the first money and Tukarei was well ahead of Wallace, the other three competitors being out of it. Motor Cycle Race 5-mile motor cycle race Buss Smith with a 15 secs, start was the only rider to complete the course and so took the money, the other two riders having to retire through their bikes letting them down.
