Wedding

BENNETT—GARDINER A very pretty wedding of wide interest, was celebrated, on Tuesday evening, the 23rd March, at St. Michael’s and All Angels’ Church, Ruawai, when Iris Mary, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Gardiner, of Kaiaka, was married to George William, youngest son of the late Mr. G. W. Bennett and Mrs. Bennett of Ruawai. The Rev. W. H. Stych officiated, and Mrs. Stych played the wedding music. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming gown of parchment lace over satin beaute, fashioned on classical lines. The bodice was cut with long fitting sleeves, finished with a row of tiny white satin buttons, from the shoulder line to wrist, a soft cowl neck line was caught by a spray of orange blossoms. The skirt was fitting over the hips, then fell into folds forming a long train at the back which was edged with a rouching of satin and finished with a True Lover’s Knot in one corner. The veil of Brussels lace, lent by Mrs. W. Dawson, Kaitaia, who taught the bridegroom at primary school, was caught at the nape of the neck and held in place by a halo of orange blossoms. She wore also a necklace of pearls and carried a bouquet of white dahlias, cream roses and asparagus fern. Mrs. E. Thompson of Auckland, in attendance as matron of honour and Miss Doreen Riding, niece of the bridegroom, as bridesmaid, were frocked alike in gowns of white satin beaute, the long skirts fitted over the hips, and fell in soft folds to the ankles. The bodices were made with cowl necklines and finished with full sleeves, gauged from the shoulder, and caught into a band at the wrist. A spray of red roses was fastened at the neckline. Wide belts of self material, were worn and fastened at the backs with ornaments of Coronation red. They wore red suede shoes, the same colour being repeated in their large picture hats, and bouquets of dahlias and asparagus fern. Little Colleen Riding, niece of the groom, made a very dainty flower girl, wearing a Victorian frock of white satin beaute, her sash of Coronation red satin, falling to the hem of her frilled frock from whence peeped tiny red slippers. A butterfly bow of the same shade was worn on the hair, and a basket of matching flowers was also carried.

Robby Strang, nephew of the groom accompanied her as page boy, wearing a suit of whife satin, finished with a red satin bow at the collar and red stripes down each trouser leg. The groom’s presents to the maids were dress rings. As the bride came down the aisle, Rona Strangslipped a lucky horse shoe over her arm. Mr. Len Williams attended as bestman and Mr. R. Vause as groomsman. The reception was later held at the home of the bridegroom’s mother, Mrs. Bennett wearing a frock of black romaine crepe and a black hat, relieved with a red feather mount. She carried a posy of helio coloured dahlias and fern. Long tables were set in the drawing ro m, seating over

seventy guests, and a large white wedding bell hung over the beautifully iced wedding cake. The happy couple were later farewelled at the wharf by a great many well-wishers, and a full orchestra of serenaders, the bride wearing a grey tailored costume, navy blouse, hat, and chic accessories to match. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett will make their future home in Ruawai.
