Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ricketts of I Auckland, are visiting Kaitaia as the I guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Bagley. i Mr. and Mrs. P. Braik and Miss Kate and Miss Mercia Urlich, paid I a short visit to Ngawha springs last week. Mrs. Blackburn of England, and Miss Young of Auckland, are visiting Mangonui, being the guests of Mr. J. F. Cadigan. Mr. C. R. Howell of the Native Department, is the guest of Rev. and Mrs. A. Johnston of Kaitaia, while he is in the district. Mr. and Mrs. G. Tyler left Awanui on Tuesday morning for a holiday trip overseas before settling in Wanganui, where they will make their future home. Rev. R. Gordon Kirgan and Mr. J. Hawthorne of Auckland who have been spending a month with Mr. D. Gordon Kirgan at Ahipara, have returned to their homes. Mrs. Barriball of Oruru, is recovering from the effects of a very painful accident. She was watching her son hauling firewood when the chain caught a stick causing it to break and a flying fragment pierced the calf of Mrs. Barriball’s leg. The Rev. T. T. Poihippi and family left for Thames on Monday. Mr. Poihippi has been appointed to the charge of the Maori church there. Prior to their departure, they were tendered a farewell evening by the people of Ahipara, where the Rev. Poihippi has been stationed. On behalf of the people of the district, Mr. P. MANCHESTER UNITY NOTES Despite the unavoidable absence of some of the principal officers, Loyal Kaitaia Lodge held a successful meeting on Tuesday, Bro. A. Gray P.G. presiding. It was decided to hold a dance at Takahue on Thursday, April 15, running a free bus from Kaitaia. On completion of business, supper was served by Sisters Kirtlan and Stubbs, and the remainder of the evening was filled in with Flag 500. The winners were Sisters Reylands and K. and E. Steed. The consolation was gratefully accepted by Sister Gray and Bros. O. White and H. Thompson. The gift went to Sister Powell. Next meeting and an oldtime dance will be on Tuesday, April 13. The last pile for the new Mangonui wharf was made this week, and the driving of the first pile should take place within the next week or so.
