A record shipment of 37 thoroughbred American cattle, said to be worth £IO,OOO arrived at Sydney last week from New York for New South Wales breeders. Included in the shipment were 24 Polled Shorthorns, four Shorthorns, four Herefords, one Aberdeen Angus bull and one Jersey bull. Three calves were born on the voyage.

A determination to make no statements of a piecemeal nature regarding details of the Government’s financial proposals was expressed by the Prime Minister (the Hon. M. J. Savage) in an interview with a Wellington Press representative. Neither he nor the members of the Government intended to allow themselves to be lost in a mist of rumours and denials, he said. A new type of stainless steel which, it is claimed, will revolutionise scores of industries, has been evolved by a Sheffield scientist. The method, briefly stated, is to give ordinary steel a coating of stainless steel, which will protect it from rust. This opens up possibilities of stainless steel ships, bridges, aeroplanes, railway carriages and springs, to mention only a few directions in which, it is stated, this invention could be applied.
