At the Theatre

PRINCESS THEATRE, KAITAIA Friday and Saturday

A double feature programme will be screened at the Princess, Kaitaia, on Friday, tonight, and tomorrow, Saturday night, the first feature being Zane Grey’s “ The Dude Ranger.” This fine outdoors film stars George O’Brien, everbody’s favourite cowboy actor and he certainly does not disappoint in this, his latest picture. The second film, “Beloved” is a masterpiece. Covering three generations of musicians, with the incomparable John Boles singing his way through the story, a veritable feast of melodys and romance is in store for all those who attend the Princess ou these two nights. A matinee will be screened on Saturday afternoon. Monday Once again Ronald Colman is cast as Bulldog Drummond in the film “ Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back ” at the Princess on Monday night. Colman’s personality is the only one that resembles that of Sapper’s devil-may-care hero, although other actors have played the part, and his exploits in this film are thrilling from start to finish. Charles Butterworth plays the part of the blundering, good natured Algy. The censor recommends this picture for adults. Wednesday Eleven rounds of the most entertaining and spectacular contest ever fought, Max Baer v. Primo Camera, for the world’s heavyweight title, will be screened at the theatre on Wednesday night. On the specially erected stage, a number of amateur boxing bouts will also be decided, the chief contest being that between G. Frear, Kaitaia. and Whiskers Clark, Wairaa.

AWANUI TALKIES

Saturday Rich in humour and emotional appeal, “ Grand Old Girl " comes to the Awanui screen on Saturday as a thoroughly delightful picture possessing exceptional human interest qualities. The picture centres around the story of an elderly school teacher who lives only for “ her boys and girls.” Under the spell of May Robson’s artistry, the character of Laura Bayles, gallantly courageous principal of 4 Vol >dale High School, assumes heroic proportions. Truly is it a picture for young and old. Monday Tom Mix, that tall, handsome cowboy who loads dynamite in his fists and who places the Russian Cossacks and the Uraiian Legion tTo shame alike with his hair-raising horsemanship, again rings the figurative bell of excellence with the presentation of his latest picture entitled “The Fourth Horseman,” at the Awanui Talkies on Monday night, Labour night. Margaret Lindsay, Fred Kohler, Raymond Hatton and Buddy Roosevelt head the supporting cast. Wednesday “ Damaged Lives,” the most sensational film of recent years, a gripping and graphic human document, to be screened at Awanui on Wednesday, is a courageous and praiseworthy presentation of the dangers of the “ white scourge,” embellished by a movingly enacted drama, which must rank as one of the greatest achievements in the annals of the screen. This picture is recommended for adults.

Beazley were ms. c. the Ritz Orchestra supplying the music, with extras by Misses Y. Bastard, N. Beazley and Mr. A. Logan, and a well varied programme was run through to the satisfaction of all.
