r: ABSTRACT OF BUSINESS The first meeting of the newly elected Hospital Board was held on Tuesday when there were present Messrs T. 3. Houston (Chairman), C. B. Miohie, L. J. Matthews, W. J. Steed, W. Vickers, D. Kitchen, J. T. Clark and J. W. Hoskin. A welcome to the new members was extended by tbe Chairman and the older members of the Board, it being stated that members were pleased to see the Far Northern and the Herekino districts of the County were represented on the Board. Mr. Hoskin and other members congratulated the Chairman on being returned near the head of the poll, the ratepayers recognising bis work for the Hospital during the past 20 years. Messrs Vickers and Steed returned thanks for their welcome. Exception to remarks at a meeting held at Kaitaia prior to the election by Mr. Micliie, was taken by Mr. Kitchen. The Minister of Health wrote agreeing to the change of name of the hospital to the Mangonui County Memorial Hospital *s was requested by the County RS.A. Mr. Matthews reported that Mr. E. J. Bergkan was keeping the Hospital property at Mangonui in first class order, the grounds looking very well. It was decided to obtain particulars of the agreement entered into by the Whangarei Hospital Board with the Hokianga Board, regarding patients from the latter district entering the Whangarei Hospital, and if possible, to arrange for a similar agreement with the Whangarei and Auckland Boards. For their donation of £5, half the proceeds of the Sports meeting, the Waipapakauri Sports Club are to be thanked. The Kaitaia Women’s Division are to be thanked for their efforts in connection with providing for a convalescent patient. The Medical Superintendent suggested that the Board should consider the advisibility of erecting or arranging for a convalescent home in the district. An executive committee consisting of the Chairman and Messrs Michie and Clark, was appointed, and the last two were appointed a grounds committee. It was decided to hold Board meetings on the Thursday after the Council meetings. Accounts amounting to £332 were passed for payment. The only tender, Mr. A. H. Powell's, for supplementary milk and cream supplies to the hospital, was accepted. Mr. P. G. Quitter’s tender, the only one received, was accepted for meat supplies. For groceries, Messrs D. Archibald and Sons' tender was accepted, as also was this firm’s tender for bread, benzine and kerosene.
