Meeting to Form Domain Board at Ahipara
A meeting of residents and property owners in the area was held in the Ahipara native school on Friuay evening for the purpose of forming a Domain Board. Mr. C. McKinnon (County Clerk) explained the reasons for calling the meeting, and gave a brief outline of the previous board’s work, and the reason for the members resigning so as to allow another board being appointed. The board had no funds, as all, amounting to over £l2, had been spent last year on clearing the ground. The domain consisted of 10 acres situated opposite the school. Mr. J. N. Berghan, County Councillor for the riding, was elected chairman of the meeting, and a discussion took place on the formation of a new board, but as the meeting was not well attended, it was considered advisable to adjourn the meeting . till Thursday, January 31, when it is hoped that section owners in the Ahipara township area will be able to attend the meeting. It was stated that funds to the extent of about £6 were held by two organisa-
tions that were interested in improving the domain and making of it a sports area. It is probable that this sum would be handed over to the Domain Board for improving the area. A vote of thanks to Mr. Braik for the use of the school was carried before the meeting terminated. A New Fodder Plant Growing in the Ahipara native school grounds is a pigeon pea, a tropical fodder plant grown extensively in India and tropical Africa for its great food value. The peas are a source of food supply for many mil-
lions in these countries. The plant at Ahipara is the only one that has germinated out of many seeds that were planted and is perhaps the only plant of its kind in New' Zealand. It is growing on good soil in a well sheltered place. It will not StaticT frost or exposure.
