Taipa on Boxing Day

Ideal weather conditions were extremely beneficial to the sports meeting held with great success in Mr. C. Adamson’s paddock, Taipa, under the aegis of the Oruru-Taipa Beach Improvement Association, on Boxing Day. As in the past, the officials carried out efficiently their arduous tasks of running off the events in quick succession. The following are tho results of the major events: — 100 yards, men : Ist heat—D. Hill 1, D. Newton 2, S. Gihh 3. 2nd heat—A. Wells 1, F. Pye 2, J. King 3. Final—S. Gihh 1, F. Pye 2 120 yards—D. Hill 1, J. King 2 220 yards—F. Buckingham 1, J. King 2 440 yards—Buckingham 1, Edwards 2 Stepping tho chain—Albert Buckingham Hop, Step and Jump—F. Harrison Races for ladies, and events in which the younger generation were given ample range to demonstrate their athletic prowess, were also staged. A children’s event which caused much amusement among the bystanders and gave evidence of the coming generation's stamina, was the hoys’ pillow tight, in which the judges were allotted no easy task to discriminate between fyhe relative merits of the combatants.
