CANADIANS WARNED OF LOSING MARKETS

Canada, in common with the United States and other wheat exporting nations, must be prepared to face the permanent loss of their European wheat markets, Mr. Frederick E. Murphy, one of the two United States signatories to the London wheat agreement, recently declared. Wheat-consuming countries are now growing their own wheat, he said, and would soon be entirely independent of foreign importations. He thought that controlled production was the only solution to the problem. “Europe has been taking 850,000,000 bushels of wheat annually,” he stated. “Since 1930 she has increased her own production from 915,000,000 to 1,300,000,000 bushels. Within three years Europe will be raising enough wheat to fill her own needs. It is necessary to have continuous controlled production, not only in wheat but on all farm products.” Canada is hoping to temper the loss through the development of the Chinese and other Eastern markets, according to Mr. H. H. Stevens, Minister of Trade and Commerce.

Little Pigs Warmed by Electric Heaters Electrically warmed pig-sties are being advocated by Lancashire, Eng., pig-breeders for the winter months. Believing that little pigs need to be kept thoroughly warm and dry during the cold weather, one Preston pig-breeder has had electric heaters installed which are proving such a success that his system has been publicly recommended to other pigbreeders.
