Prizes for Children

Sir,—ln reply to “Mother Jane’s” letter I would like to state thatl do not think prize-giving should be abolished. It encourages enthusiasm and makes the child more keen to do his best to get that prize. Prize-giving has been in practice for many years and at a children’s function of any kind it is most essential. It is the child who complains when he is not a prize winner, who is greedy and “me first”. We are most fortunate in having fully trained teachers and a capable committee to guard the interests of our children and I think we, as parents, should assist, in the right way, and leave the distribution of prizes to those who have proved themselves most capable. Yours, etc., IRIS GOODIIEW
