Cricket KAITAIA versus PERIA In glorious weather Kaitaia tried conclusions with Peria, at Peria, last Saturday, and suffered defeat to the extent of 104 runs on the first innings. Kaitaia, batting first, gave a dismal exhibition, and could knock up only 48 runs —Waddell, 17, and Moore, 13, being the only batsmen to reach double figures. Peria replied with 152, ‘Skipper’ Percy Lambley being top score with 34. Although in the veteran stage, Lambley is still an attractive bat, some of his off shots being a treat to watch. Kelsall played a solid innings to score a wellearned 24. Kaitaia went much better in their second knock, 3 wickets being down for 104 when time was called. Moore and Waddell were well set, each being unbeaten with 44 and 32 respectively. Peria’s fielding during Kaitaia’s first innings was brilliant, but they slackened off in the afternoon. Kelsall was outstanding. During the day, Waddell received n nasty smack on the cheek-bone, necessitating his retirement for some time. Cricketers were pleased to see Mr. Chum. VALLEY MARRIED Played under ideal weather conditions at the Valley, this proved a most interesting match, with the bowlers of both sides on top right, throughout. The Valley gained a first innings lead of 10 runs, and at call of time were six runs behind with one wicket in hand. Mangonui claim that the umpires’ watches were fast and are considering a protest.
