Accident to Mr. H. M. Rushworth
Mr. H. M. Rushworth, M.P., met with a distressing accident on Saturday night when returning from a visit to Kaikohe. The car was being driven by Mr. J. W. Jone.s, of Pakaraka, and when near the Waimate turn, where there are two sharp bends, the car skidded on some loose metal and turned completely over. Mr. Jones was pinned underneath by the wheel and the car had to be jacked up to free him. His hand was rather badly crushed but otherwise he had a remarkable escape. Mr. Rushworth’s right leg, which was injured in the war, was broken and he had a deep cut on the wrist, and he suffered some injuries to his head. A passing service car rendered assistance and took Mr. Rushworth to his home at Pakaraka, from which Dr. Smith conveyed him to the Rawene hospital. Yesterday Mr. Rushworth was reported to have passed a fair night, and is doing as well as can be reasonably expected. The other occupants of the car, Mrs. Eric Walker, of Pakaraka, and her little daughter, were unhurt.
