'ln that amusing book “Recollections of an Old Fogey,” the anonymous author tells how, on one occasion, he caught his son Tom smoking a pipe. Annoyed, he told him that he was too young to smoke, that it was a bad habit and very injurious, adding that he knew because he used to smoke himself. “How long did you keep it up?” asked Tom. “Fifty years.” “And when did you begin?” “When I was—er—about your age,” admitted Dad. “Well,” said Tom, “if I find smoking is injuring my health fifty years from no, I’ll knock it off too.” Joking apart, it cannot be overemphasised that smoking won’t hurt anyone so long as the tobacco is right. Give those imported brands a miss, and stick to the New Zealand toasted! The toasting takes the nicotine out of the leaf and makes it as safe as houses to smoke. It also gives it its beautiful flavour and' matchless aroma. There are only four brands of toasted : Riverhead Gold, Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish and Cut Plug No. 10. pi Q
