A Gay Night At Awanui
The Football Club Dance About forty-five couples, some from as far as Houhora, foregathered in the beautifully decorated Awanui hall on Thursday, 29th, on the occasion of the Awanui Football Club’s Annual Ball. The floor was in perfect condition for dancing, and the music by the Versatile Orchestra, Miss E. Christensen (piano), Mr. J. Feeney (violin), Mr. A. G. Carlquist (saxophone), and Mr. J. Hillman (banjo-ukelele), was lively and spirited. Mr. A. Hutley proved himself an efficient Master of Ceremonies. The streamer and moonlight dances proved very popular. In the competitions the Far North visitors held their own, the hat dance being won by Miss D. Mclntosh (Pukenui), and Mr. R. Mills, and the Monte Carlo by Miss Mary Evans and Mr. Fred Evans, both of Houhora. Ample justice was done to the excellent supper served by the Awanui ladies, and the social committee is to be congratulated on the very enjoyable programme.
