Northern Stock Sales

The North Auckland Farmers’ Coop., Ltd., held cattle sales last week at Herekino (252 head), Kaitaia (698 head), and Broadwood (248 head). There was a good attendance of outside buyers. Competition was good at late rates, and practically all lots were sold.

Best dairy cows made up to £lO. Dairy heifers £4 10/ to £6. Prime fat steers to £7 15/. Fat cows £5 10/ to £6 10/. Four-year steers to £4 8/. Three-year steers, best, £3 15/; good, £3. Two-year steers, 37/6 to £2 2/6. Yearlings, 17/6 to 25/. Yearling Jersey heifers, best, £2 10/ to £3 ; good crossbred, 30/ to £2; small, 10/ to 15/. Store cows, 15/ to 27/6.

Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and the N. A. Farmers’ Co-op., Ltd., held sales during the past week at Moerewa, Oue, Broadwood, Ohaeawai and Kaikohe, and report as follows : Fair yardings came forward at the last four mentioned sales and the quality on the whole was good. There was a good representative range of buyers from as far south as Papakura and all the stock met with ready competition at prices in advance of late rates. Grown cattle with frame and condition showed the sharpest advance, this being the class of cattle wanted by Southern graziers to put into the beef paddock. Empty jersey heifers of good quality are also in good demand at the present time, prices* for these showing an advance on late rates.

Following is the range of prices : Fat bullocks, £6 15/ to £7 10/ ; 4yr. steers, good condition, £4 10/ to £5 -4/; 4-yr. steers, store condition, £3 15/ to £4 5/; 3-yr. steers, £3 5/ to £4; 2-yr. steers, £1 18/ to £3 ; yearling steers, £1 to £1 16/ ; fat cows, £3 10/ to £5 10/ ; store cows, £1 8/ to £2 ; coloured grown steers, £2 to £3 10/ ; empty jersey heifers, £1 10/ to £3 18/ ; springing cows and heifers, £2 to £7 10/.
