Farewell to Mr. W. Berridge
A farewell social to Mr. W. Berridge, who has been transferred from Kaitaia to the managership of the Waverley branch of the Bank of Australasia, was held in the A. and P. hall on Tuesday night, when there was a large turn-out to bid Mr. and Mrs. Berridge goodbye and good luck in their new home. During the supper interval Mr. Berridge was presented with a travelling rug and Mrs. Berridge with a handsome handbag. Speeches were delivered by the chairman of the Town Board, Mr. J. T. B. Taaffe, Mr. A. Bell and Mr. C. B. Michie, who eulogised Mr. Berridge’s very active service on numerous bodies and public occasions during his stay in Kaitaia, and, while voicing their regret at his departure, wished him. and ?iis good lady all happiness and prosperity in the future. Mr. Berridge responded in a neat speech, thanking them for their good wishes and the numerous kindnesses extended to them during their stay. Opportunity was taken during the social, which was organised by a Citizen’s Committee, to welcome Mr. R. W. Laing, the successor of Mr. Berridge in the Kaitaia branch managership, for which Mr. Laing returned thanks.
