A Wonderful Method of Fishing

There are many curious sights to be observed in the waters of the Persian Gulf. One of the most curious is the organised mass movement of a little black cormorant, known as the Socotra Cormorant. This bird is found only in these waters, and is usually to be seen in large flocks. The birds quarter the sea with'the utmost precision. The leaders of the flock settle down and begin to dive for fish ; the next ranks then settle down a yard or two ahead, and so on. As each rank comes up to the surface again it finds itself in the rear, and so the whole flock advances continuously, every foot of water being carefully fished during this endless progression.
