FREAK CALVES
Last week a six-year-old Holstien cow on a farm near Dargaville gave birth to “Siamese twin” calves, attached end to end at the hind quarters. Individually the bodies were distinct and fully developed in every particular with the single exception that one had only three legs, whilst the other was normal in this respect. The two tails were attached to the back in positions which would have been individually normal in regular circumstances. The freak was 6ft. 4in. in length from nose to nose and its weight was 1271 b. Both of the calves were alive but were killed in the process of delivery.
