KAITAIA ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY

There was a large attendance of members of the above society at their regular monthly meeting held in Foster’s rooms, Kaitaia, on Tuesday evening, 19th inst. The lecture, which was delivered by the President, Mr. C. B. Michie, dealt with the minor planets Mercury, Venus and Mars with itsattendant satellites. The keen interest taken in the lecture, was evinced by the interesting discussion which took place during question time. At the end of the discussion, Mr. Michie offered to bring his 6in. refractor telescope to Kaitaia provided suitable accomodation could be found for housing it.

This offer led to a discussion on the building of a suitable room and the purshasing of an equatorial stand,

Mr. Michie further offered to erect his telescope on a temporary stand at his residence in Rangitiki, in order that the members ot the society may have the opportunity of viewing the planets, their attendent satellites and our own moon.

The members propose to avail themselves of their President’s generous offer and will journey to Rangitiki immediately the weather becomes settled.

The societys next lecture will be on the major planets, this will be their last meeting, until Mr. Michie returns from a trip to Niau Fou Island, where he will accompany the New Zealand expedition to view the total eclipse of the sun on the 21st of October.
