SATURDAY’S FOOTBALL

MANGONUI V WAIROA On Friday last the local junior reps travelled to DargaviKe to compete for the Brake Shield. The boys turned out fit and eager on Saturday and after a very fast game the Mangonui boys won 8 nil. No special player can be sorted out as being better than the others, as one and all were out to win. Tom Walters was responsible for scoring the eight points. Three times the Wairoa boys were on the Mangonui line in a scrum, but our forwards were too superior in every way. The boys were sorry indeed to loose their popular Captain, L. Jury, who left for Auckland on Sunday.

The bovs had a great time, and met some old friends from here > our late Postmaster Mr. Munn.being well in the forward to wel*. come our boys. After the match the boys were the guests at a dinner given by the Waiioa Union.

Mr. Montgominery, the President congratulated the boys on their win, and cheers were exchanged for winners and losers. Our boys were well looked after in every way and arrived home on Sunday night well satisfied that the people and players of Dargaville are sports. Mr. McLoud of Whangarei, held the whistle.
