MONTHLY FEPORT MENACE OF FISHY TAINT A deeded increase in supplies during October, as compared with the previous month, is indicated in the monthly report of the N.Z-Co-op; rative Pig Marketing Association Ltd. But there is still, the report states, great room for improvement in this direction. The 1 irge number of calves being reared this season has no doubt considerably lessened the number of p gs coming forward, but as each week goes by the association expects to handle greaily increased quantities, despite the fact that pigs are not so plentiful as they were at this time last year. Markets The market for both porke.s and baconers is still maintaining a firm price, and indications point to continued good prices for the time being. SuDpliers should thus be able to look forward to a beneficial season. Fishy Pork As mentioned previously the “fishy” t tint men ice is causing the ass relation a good deal of coic r , aid it has establish d a lead by definitely deciding to make no payment on pigs which upon killing at the works show visible sign of having been fed on whale oil. Thi a-sicia'ioi has repeatedly drawn attention to this evil of late, and trusts by its decision to make no payment upon pigs affected by whale oil to cause a discontinuance of the use of the oil and thus not place the pig industry in New Zealand, which has been so carefully built up, in jeopardy on the overseas markets. Curing The assoc : ation has now fin 1 ised arrangements to cure pigs on owners’ amount, and by sup plying the association’s truckers with full particulars as io lire brands, etc., ihey can be assured of deriving every satisfaction by forwarding pigs through the association to be cured. Ihe price inclu ;;ng all handling and killing charges, etc., will be at the rate of 3d. per lb. on the net. dressed weight of meat, plus return tailage from the bacon factory to the supplier. The approximate length of time required for curing is six weeks. Advance Payment The association has much pleasure in announcing that since its previcuis intimation of the increase in the advance on porkers from 4/2'h to 6d., it has been equally successful in increasing the ndv nee cm baconers from 4%d.t06d., and busts that in so doing it will be rewarded by in 1 creasingly larger numbers of both ! classes coming forward. Tho advance is now as follows Porkers (60. nolbs.), 6d ; Baconers (ill; l8olbs.), 6d; Heavy Biconers (181 lbs. and over), 3d ; Choppers Id. Pools T. he final two pools of last season, Nos. 13 and 14, are now paid out, these embracing all pigs ! supplied 10 the association up to June last. The association is to make a start on the finalisation of the fifteenth pool at an early date, ibis pcol including pigs! which were supplied during July and August, his confident that suppliers will find the final payout on Pools 13 and 14 very satisfactory.
