Football
Senior Match at the Valley On Saturday April 28th This match did not come up to expectations as an exposition of football. Apparently the pi lyers in both teams are content to leave their practising until the day of the match. Both forwards and backs handled and combined y oorly, the redeeming feature being the keenness on both sides Tire Valley pack secured the ball most from scrums but gained lithe at any time therefrom owing to faulty handling on the five eighths line, and the quick following up of Richards and Hutley in the Awanui forwards. In the lineouts and ths loose scrums, Awanui had the advantage but lacked the condition to keep up the pressure. On the other hand the Valley backs we r e fast and always looked dangerous w*iilst the Awanui backs were not impressive with the exception of Potter at full back and Walter Evans at half back. Thesa two saved their side from many difficult positions by clever handling and sound kicking. On the whole Awanui deseived their win, the scores being 53. For Awanui H Yates scored from a jumble on the line and Potter converted. For Valley R White put a penalty kick ever.
