Fete At Awanui
Augmenting Church Funds Unsuitable Weather Large Evening Session The function held at Awanui on Saturday to augment the funds of the Catholic Church proved a great success. The weather was not suitable for any outdoor events and it was fortunate that the organisers of the function decided to hold it in the hall which was decorated with nikau and balloons. The afternoon session was taken up with games and competitions and the stalls and booths were trading their wares. Musical selections were given by the orchestra and the rythmic dancing by the girls, trained by Mr. Walker, met with a round of applause at the conclusion of their performance. The large crowd that attended in the evening must have been gratifying to the organisers, many people having travelled long distances to attend. A repeated performance by the dancing girls was given and the multi coloured lighting effect showed the dancing toadvantage. A picture programme followed and the hall then cleared for dancing, auction sales being held at intervals, of farm and garden produce and a variety of other g«ods. Ihe balloon dance caused much merriment and was won by Miss Joan Church and H Yates. At the conclusion of the sale and dancing the winners of the varioas comoetitions were announced which were as follows: Night-dress—Mrs Watts, Waipapakauri. Cake—Mr Gunson.
