A Musical Family
St Thomas s Easter Services
A feature of the Easter Services at St Thomas’s Church in England was that the music of the Canticles, morning and evening, was from settings by relatives of the Vicar (the Rev J F Alec Stimpson) whom, we are pleased to hear, comes from a musical family. That of the “Te Deum” was by Dr James Stimpson (father), the “Benedictus,” by the Vicar himself, the “Kyrie” by Mr O J
Stimpson, Mus Bac. (uncle), and the “Magnificat” and “Nunc Dimittis” by Mr James Stimpson, junr. now residing in Kaitaia. Two anthems were nicely rendered by the choir, in the morning, “Christ is risen” (Robert) and in the evening "Awake, thou that sleepest” (Jackson). The services throughout the day were conducted by the Vicar.
